It’s no secret, space is limited in Hawaii, especially Honolulu. But with a little vision and a lot of love, a little space is all you need when you live in paradise.
It’s 7am. Drinking our morning coffee we take in the valley views from our tiny 50-sf balcony. Sensing my husband’s relaxed weekend mood, I take the opportunity to introduce a little home improvement project on my mind since we moved in. With coffee in hand, he sits at my imaginary bar while I explain my vision overlooking the stream below.
With a few measurements and not much of a plan, we head off to the hardware store with our buddy Daylan. Wandering up and down the aisles we settle on a few nuts and bolts, brackets and screws, and a couple of boards cut to size.
Back in the garage, we get to work. We start by attaching a 1-1/2″ ledge to the table top using 2″ L-brackets. Just big enough to keep drinks and pupus where they belong.
Next, a rough sanding and quick dry sealant.
A couple of holes and 4″ bolts on each side of the bar
Fasten with another bracket and some added protection with our high tech custom padding.
And voila! Our little space before…
Our little space after. Total cost $60. Time including shopping 4 hrs. Just in time for happy hour. Reservations for four. Who’s in?
